When you are nearing menopause, the body’s hormones – oestrogen and progesterone start to decline; Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) helps to replace these hormones relieving you of menopausal symptoms.

What happens during your appointment?

During your initial appointment, your consultant will evaluate your symptoms and suitability for hormone replacement therapy. They will refer you for blood tests, which will help to confirm menopause and for an examination to test thyroid dysfunction before commencing your hormone replacement therapy.

Treatment options

Your body stops producing oestrogen and progesterone during menopause. There are different ways to restore the lost hormones and your consultant will discuss the following options with you.

  • Medication
  • Injections
  • Skin cream / spray
  • Vaginal rings or creams
