Once the place of surgery has been decided, your Consultant will let the hospital know book you in for the surgery. The hospital will contact you for a preop appointment, where you will have further blood tests, ECG or X-Ray if necessary. Often, you will be asked to fill up a questionnaire to help them assess the investigations. You might be requested to ring the insurance company and get an authorization for the procedure. Some hospitals will do that for you. If you are self-paying the self-paying team from that respective hospital will request you to pay before the procedure.
On the day of the surgery, you will meet your Consultant who will go through the consent form with you and confirm the consent after answering all your questions.
The Consultant Anaesthetist will visit to ask relevant questions and explain the method of anaesthesia.
